Good reasons to write
- A number on this site looks wrong to you. Tell me which page and which number, and if you are right I will fix it and say so.
- You know a public document that would let me publish something I currently refuse to publish, a retail price series above all.
- You want a calculator that is not here yet.
- You are a manufacturer and your data sheet moved, or I quoted it badly.
What I will not do
- Quote your job. I am not a contractor and I am not in your city.
- Recommend a store. There is no affiliate link anywhere on this site and there is no list of stores to be paid to be on.
- Take your measurements over email and run them for you. The page does that better, and it does it without me keeping anything.
How corrections work here
If you tell me a number is wrong, I do not quietly change it. I open the document it came from, check it again, and if you are right the page changes and the source entry gets a new date on it. Every figure on this site points at an entry in one registry file with the publisher, the link and the day it was opened, so a correction is a small, traceable act rather than an argument about who remembers better.
The most useful correction you can send is a source. A price on this site that has gone stale, a product page that has moved, a manufacturer sheet that has been revised: those are the messages I most want to receive, because a figure with an old date on it is the one way this site can start lying without anybody deciding to.
Response time, honestly
One person, in a different time zone from most of the people who use this. I read everything. I answer most things within a few days. If your message is a correction to a number, it moves to the front of the line, because a wrong number on a page that promises sourced numbers is the worst thing that can happen here.
